چکیده

Users in the Beyond-Third-Generation (B3G) wireless system expect to receive ubiquitous communication services with customised quality-of-service (QoS) commitments for different applications, preferably in away as transparent as possible. Ideally, flows belonging to diverse applications can be automatically and optimally distributed (or handed off) among the most appropriate access networks for multihomed users. To contribute to realising this vision, we propose a novel architecture to achieve QoS-aware policy-based flow handoffs for multihomed users, especially those equipped with more than a single personal device. In this architecture, advanced network intelligence enables a personal gateway to handle flow distributions dynamically for all the devices behind it according to the applications’ QoS requirements and the current available network resources. Vertical Handover Support in Coordinated Heterogeneous Radio Access Networks

Beyond 3G wireless networks must be able to coordinate services within a diverse network environment. One of the most challenging problems for coordination is vertical handover (VHO), which is the decision for a mobile node to change the point of attachment between different types of networks. While traditional handover is based on received signal strength comparisons, VHO must evaluate additio...

Multiview real-time media distribution for next generation networks

With the massive deployment of broadband access to the end-users, the continuous improvement of the hardware capabilities of end devices and better video compression techniques, acceptable conditions have been met to unleash over-the-top bandwidth demanding and time-stringent P2P applications, such as multiview real-time media distribution. Such applications enable the transmission of multiple ...

A Scalable Network Architecture for Distributed Virtual Environments with Dynamic QoS over IPv6

Virtual environments (VEs) are interactive computer simulations that immerse users in an alternate reality. Distributed VE (DVE) applications simulate the experience of real-time interaction among multiple users in a shared three-dimensional (3-D) virtual world. In this paper, we identify the network service requirements for highly interactive DVEs and show the limitations of IPv4 in satisfying...
